With the kind support of Mr and Mrs Levy and the Primrose Trust we are able to start building the first teachers house at Olng’arua. Until now our teachers have been hosted by families in the local community, the area is remote and there is no nearby rental accommodation in which to house them. In order to continue to keep and attract the best staff for the school and community education centre it is essential that we can offer them self-contained accommodation. We are therefore really pleased to be able to start building the first ‘teachers house’ (though probably not as pleased as Nademwua, our first and most long suffering teacher!)
The teachers houses will be simple two room buildings with outdoor facilities but, for the first time, the teachers will have their own homes in the village. It is also quite difficult for people from outside the community to adjust to living in traditional Maasai mud huts so these simple houses will make it much easier for incoming teachers to adapt to life in the bush and work in this remote area.
Mr and Mrs Levy have been strong supporters of the local groups we work with in Isiolo District for a number of years now. Previously they have provided Farm Kits to Kipsing School and Ramitile Maa Youth Group, enabling both education and enterprise. So on behalf of the many people whose lives Mr and Mrs Levy have touched here in Isiolo district I wish to thank them very deeply for their friendship and support.
