Our wonderful volunteer, Andy, organized Olng’arua School’s first ever sports day. It was a blast. None of the children had ever participated in anything quite like it before; and certainly some of the events were extremely unusual by our northern bush standards. Along with running races there was also a sack race, an egg (well bean bag) and spoon race, a run and keep a bean bag on your head race and even a run and keep a balloon between your knees race…. as well as some relay races that required you to do the same thing and then pass it on to others. The parents who came to watch went from wide eyed astonishment to tears of laughter, and quickly engaged in rousing cheers in support of the children. The children of course thought this was all just about the most fun ever to be had at school. All in all Andy organized a fantastic event that we will find difficult to live up to in future years. So well done to Andy and all the participants.
