Once upon a time Olng’aura School got a surprise visit from children’s author and illustrator Daniel Kirk. It was the first time the children had ever met a real author. It was also the first time they realised that you could, if you wanted, grow up to be someone who writes books for a living, or draws pictures and actually get paid for it.
Daniel Kirk sent the school two parcels of books after he had returned home. In the parcel were copies of his Library Mouse series, about a mouse so in love with books that he starts writing and illustrate his own. This inspired many of the children to write and illustrate their own books.
We are extremely grateful to Daniel Kirk for coming to visit us, for the books and for the inspiration. Who knows, we could be witnessing the beginning of some interesting careers in literature.
