School Jobs Rota

Planning team for the school job rota

Every afternoon, before we attend the closing meeting, the children spend half an hour doing jobs around the school. They sweep and tidy their classrooms and help put away materials used during the day. The older children also help with other jobs such as watering the fruit trees and cleaning the toilets.

Today the children’s committee planned the school job rota for the rest of the year. This was the first time they had planned the rota themselves. As anyone who has tried to plan a rota for lots of people will know, its not an easy job. It took them a whole day to get a rota that was fair and varied for everyone.

During the process they learned about tallying, practiced different forms of data handling and presentation and of course all the skills associated with planning and democratic group work.
