Yesterday was the inaugural Melody Taft Football Tournament. Peter Bender and Anne Ostberg donated footballs, pumps and goal markers to Olng’arua School on behalf of Melody Taft. The children love football but ordinarily kids here get little chance to play. If they do the best they can normally hope for is a ball made of plastic bags tied together with a lot of string. Now with proper footballs and goal markers the children will have a chance to play often, learn new skills and benefit from the valuable lessons in teamwork the game provides. Oh, yes, and they also get to have a really good time!
Melody’s sister Karla presented the balls to Kitonga. Along with Peter, Anna and Karla there were also parents present and a wonderful group of people who came a very long way (USA) to cheer the kids on. The Rhino team won this match but the Simba team look ready to come back strongly next time….. watch this space.
