For the last two years the cooks at Olng’arua School have been providing breakfast, mid morning milk and lunch for 45 people in a small traditional thatched hut. It looks very picturesque but as kitchens go, to be honest, it’s pretty rubbish!
Thanks to a substantial donation from Tumaini Isiolo e.V. we are able to build our long suffering kitchen staff a much more spacious, and very importantly, waterproof kitchen. Not only that, for the first time they will actually have a large stainless steel topped table to work on. The dinner ladies are, understandably, over joyed!
The kitchen will still look fairly picturesque too as the waterproof roof will be given a traditional covering of grass thatch and traditional stick work will surround the outside of the building.
There is also enough money to by the school a complete set of year 1 and 2 course books! So everybody at the school is very happy.
We want to send a great big thank you Katrin and Jochen and all the generous donors who contributed to Tumaini Isiolo e.V. and the fund for Olng’arua School. Without you the coming rainy season would have been another miserable experience for the staff and children at the school.
