Volleyball

Volleyball

Last week Kitonga and the kids made a volleyball pitch. They measured the pitch, they dug holes for the posts, they oiled the posts to deter termites and they strung the net.

The kids had no idea what they were doing. They had never seen a volleyball game (even though it is popular in many parts of Kenya). They had never even heard of it before. Secluded in their small village in the bush these children get very little knowledge of the world that doesn’t come through the school.

They now know a lot more about volleyball though. They have been having a great time practising and many of them have been surprisingly quick to get the hang of it. Mind you, these football mad kids did find it difficult to remember not to try and kick the ball at first.

The younger kids have also loved watching it, and running after the ball every time it headed out of the pitch. It’s great to have another game to look forward to during the school week.
