Our intention is to start offering school meals again as soon as possible but there are sharp shards of metal and glass littered all around the school, all must be found and removed to make it safe for the children to return, even just for meals.
We also need to clear all the destroyed remains of books and other learning materials.
Not only are the roofs gone but the many of the metal windows and doors were torn out from the building, showing the determination for destruction and greed. Most of this metal was found in lorries being taken to sell for scrap. It is no use to us now, apart from as evidence, but all the resulting rubble must be cleared away.
As we do this we are also assessing the work needed to repair the buildings. It is the start of a long job, but every journey starts with the first step.
